Salka Valka is a café with some delicious Icelandic food options! Here's what we enjoyed from the menu at this Reykjavik restaurant.

Salka Valka is a small café in downtown Reykjavik, just down the road from the unforgettable structure of the Hallgrimskirkja church (and the Leif Erikson monument).
When we visited this restaurant, we noticed the lamb and seafood options particularly, but it also has quite the sourdough pizza menu!
Drinks include lots of coffee options and hot and cold cocktails, some of which sound quite decadent. Also, if you want to try Iceland's traditional liqueur, known as Brennivín, you can do that here.

Salka Valka has both indoor and outdoor seating. We were seated quickly, but I imagine they probably get full later in the evening.

The Menu at Salka Valka
My husband ordered the lamb shank, which was served with Béarnaise sauce, sweet potatoes, and sautéed cabbage. He loved it and said it was very tender with great flavor and good sides.

I enjoyed the fish soup. To me, it tasted like sweet potatoes — but they weren't listed as an ingredient, so it must have been the slightly sweet combination of coconut milk, ginger, and paprika that gave me that impression.
With chickpeas also in the mix, the soup was different from what I expected, but good!
The buttered sourdough bread was fabulous.

What Else Should I Try in Rekjavik?
If you’re visiting Reykjavik and want lamb, Salka Valka is a great option! But Reykjavik is full of interesting food and drink spots.
Just a few minutes' walk or drive will bring you to Cafe Loki or Messinn, both with lots of seafood on the menu.
For a coffee break, try Brikk — or visit the city's one and only cat café!
For local whiskey, head to Eimverk Distillery.
