Minniborgir is a charming restaurant located along Iceland's famous Golden Circle route. Stop in for a simple bite, or enjoy their more indulgent options!

Minniborgir is a restaurant just a few minutes away from the Kerið Crater along the Golden Circle loop.

There are also cottages here, though we didn't stay in them. But we did stop in for a bite to eat!

It's about an hour from Reykjavik, or about a quarter of the overall Golden Circle.

It's also only about 15 minutes (if you were to drive directly) from one of our favorite experiences in all of Iceland — Laugarvatn Fontana Geothermal Bakery! (If you are sticking to the Golden Circle, however, you'll reach Laugarvatn on the second half of your drive.)

Here's a look at what there is to enjoy at Minniborgir restaurant.

    Seating + Reservations

There's an enclosed patio area and an indoor seating area.

The patio was full when we visited, but the indoor area had plenty of room. (We arrived with no reservations on a Saturday around noon.)

If you do want to book ahead, you can do so on their website (as well as take a peek at the menu, which can vary by season).

    The Menu at Minniborgir Restaurant

This restaurant has the potential to be really pricey, but we ended up eating at what seemed like a reasonable price (for Iceland). Our bill ended up being about $25 (US) a person.

However, they also had much more expensive options, so if you’re on a budget, be careful what you order.

I had a bowl of their organic tomato soup and a Greek salad.

I was a little skeptical of ordering fresh tomato soup in a place as cold as Iceland, but I took one bite and was blown away. It was without a doubt one of the best tomato soups I’ve ever tasted, and it made me realize how badly I’d been craving fresh veggies.

If you were hoping to visit the nearby Tomato Farm restaurant (Friðheimar) and couldn’t get a reservation, I’d highly recommend stopping here for the tomato soup. (Or be crazy and have both!)

The Greek Salad was similarly delicious. I loved that it was a more traditional Greek salad (no lettuce), and it also satisfied my hunger for fresh veggies.

They also have more indulgent options. The hubby ordered a blue cheese burger with fries and said it was fabulous.

If you’re near Kerið Crater and looking for some more veggies in your life, make sure to stop here! Perhaps it can be part of your foodie tour of Iceland.
