Messinn is a Reykjavik restaurant specializing in delicious fish pan entrées! Here's a look at what it has to offer.

On our trip to Iceland to backpack the Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuhals trails, we had a few days in Reykjavik before and after the big trek. We spent as much time as possible trying out the local food and drink!
Messinn was one of the places we enjoyed. It's a seafood restaurant in downtown Reykjavik specializing in “fish pans,” which combine freshly cooked fish, potatoes and vegetables.

Do I Need Reservations at Messinn?
Reservations are highly recommended. I was able to easily make a reservation using their website.
It's probably best to book well ahead of time, but I made a lunch reservation online in the morning for the same day. (It was on a Sunday.) They may not always have same-day reservations available, but it’s worth checking!

The restaurant is cute inside, and we were seated quickly near a window.
They were out of their Icelandic “Plokkfiskur” fish pan, which I was planning on trying, but that’s okay because the menu was still full of tempting items!

We asked a few questions about fish I hadn’t tried before, and ended up ordering the two fish pans: one cod tongue and one wolffish.
I don’t believe I’ve tried cod tongue before (which is actually not a tongue at all, but a neck muscle from the codfish that’s supposed to taste like sea scallops).

We had recently tried wolffish at Tjöruhúsið in Isafjordur, but I was so overwhelmed by all the amazing fish there that I couldn’t remember what it tasted like!
Both were delicious, although the creamy wolffish dish with tiny mushrooms was my favorite.

My husband preferred the spicier cod tongue dish, which was served with more of a spiced oily sauce.

I wanted to try a dessert, but we were too full! If you’re in Reykjavik and love seafood, this is a great stop.
