Troegs Independent Brewing in Hershey, Pennsylvania, is a fantastic place to hang out while touring and enjoying a meal!

Hershey, Pennsylvania, is not just about the chocolate.
No, there's also a great brewery in town: Troegs Independent Brewing. It offers brewery tours, a beer garden and food. We visited on a chilly April evening and tried a few brews and the restaurant.
Troegs has been going strong since the mid-90's and has earned a big reputation for both food and drink. If you're visiting Hershey, this stop should be high on your list! Here are some of the options available.
Tours at Troegs Independent Brewing
The brewery and restaurant are open every day.
Book a one-hour guided production tour for $15 (as of 2024) if you want to go behind the scenes (and also enjoy some tastings!). These tours are popular, so it's safest to make a reservation.

Seasonal craft workshops are scheduled from time to time, with admission including access to an open bar.
The Restaurant
The "Snack Bar" cooks up a lot more than just snacks. The menu includes small plates and shareables, but also gourmet specialties and sandwiches.

There are seating areas inside (both downstairs and upstairs). You'll order drinks at one of the bars (downstairs or up), and order food at the Snack Bar.

Or you can sit outside and order from the beer garden!

We tried several of their beers; our favorites were the Cordial Elf (a cherry Belgian-style ale with the addition of chocolate and honey) and the Field Study (a summertime IPA).

The beer lineup is pretty evenly split between brews that are always available and those that only come around once a year.
There's also the "Freaky Squeeze" line of drinks made with fermented barley, real fruit, and cane sugar — so, it's sort of a cross between a beer and a seltzer.
We tried some of their specialty meal options: the pan-seared scallops and the duck confit.

The scallops were buttery and delicious, and I especially enjoyed the Meyer lemon sauce. The duck confit was also amazing, perfectly cooked with crispy skin. I loved the tempura fried delicata squash.

We also tried the hop fries, and thought the malt vinegar aioli was unique and tasty.

Truly, Troegs is a must-stop if you're in the Hershey area! It's one of the best brewery restaurants we've tried, right up there with the Sierra Nevada Taproom in North Carolina.
In this area of Pennsylvania, I would also recommend a stop at Cassel Vineyards for wine tasting and The Hershey Pantry for a delicious brunch.
