Who wants to go get the best ice cream in upstate New York?

Some questions are easy to answer!

To turn this idea into a reality, you'll be heading to the heart of Finger Lakes country. Spotted Duck Frozen Custard is a shop located between the villages of Dresden and Penn Yan.

It was a delicious stop in between all the wineries and other attractions of the region! Here's why we recommend it.

What is Spotted Duck Known For?

Spotted Duck uses – you guessed it! – duck eggs as the basis for their frozen custard.

Duck eggs have the advantage of adding richness and creaminess to a recipe. Exactly what you want in custard.

The ducks themselves are on site, along with a variety of other birds. We saw a peacock named Alejandro wandering around while we were there.

You can even ask for duck sprinkles at the order counter if you want to feed the ducks!

Other ingredients are also mostly local and organic. Frozen custard is a form of ice cream, so you can refer to it either way!

    When to Visit

Days and hours of operation vary depending on the season. You can expect more open days during summer.

Check the official website for details.

Ice Cream Flights at Spotted Duck

A popular menu choice is the Keuka Flight, which allows you to pick four different custards.

They had eight flavors available that day. We got two flights so that we could sample everything!

We ordered at the stand, and our flights were ready quickly.

The outdoor seating area was near the duck pen.

My favorite flavors were the Fleur Blue (blueberry lavender) and the Chocolate.

Our group of four all had different favorites, including the Blueberry Streusel, the Black 'N' Blueberry, and the Cinnamon Stick.

The flavors change out frequently! You can find the latest lineup on the website.

What Other Spots Should I Check Out in the Area?

Within a five-mile radius, you can visit Fox Run Vineyards and Wagers Cider Mill.

Going a bit further, you'll find Ardenne's Taproom & Kitchen to the north in Geneva.

Or if you drive to the south end of Seneca Lake, you can explore Watkins Glen, which has a fantastic state park and campground and is home to the beautiful Lakewood Vineyards.

I hope you get to visit and enjoy all the frozen custard your heart desires! Let me know in the comments what flavors you love.
