Wager's Cider Mill in the Finger Lakes region of New York is a great fall destination, offering freshly pressed cider and lots of donuts!
Traveling in New York state in the fall means one thing.
I'm kidding. It means lots of things! Gorgeous autumn colors. Potentially perfect camping weather. Clear nights for star-gazing.
But what I particularly have in mind right now is apples. Lots and lots of apples!
This year we spent a few days in the Finger Lakes region. In amongst all the wineries (and there are MANY), we also made time for an apple cider stop at a family-owned business.
Are you planning your upstate New York itinerary and looking for great food and drink destinations? Here's what you can get from a visit to Wager's Cider Mill in Penn Yan!
Food + Drink at Wager's Cider Mill
The cider mill here in Penn Yan is a very small set-up compared to some that we've been to, but the food and drink are still great!
You can buy a peck of apples of multiple varieties (or a smaller quantity, if you need). They offer freshly pressed cider, of course! They filled our jugs in the back right when we ordered them.
There are fresh cider donuts in multiple flavors, including some with toppings or glaze. We picked up some of these to take home with us as gifts, and the recipients thought they were amazing.
Wager's Cider Mill makes hard cider too, and sells it in four-packs. They're not officially a tasting room (though they did have a special tasting scheduled one day this fall). Check their Facebook page for future developments.
I had a cup of hot cider while we were there, and it was extra cinnamon-y!
They also sell cider slushies.
I did get to see them crushing apples while we were there, which was pretty cool.
What Else Can I Do in the Area?
If you're visiting the Finger Lakes region, you probably already know there's no shortage of fun things to see and do.
We loved our walk through Watkins Glen, with its highly photogenic waterfalls and unique gorge. Staying at the Six Nations Camping Area made a great hub for exploring the area. And, of course, don't forget the wineries and eateries. Here are a few of our favorites:
