This spicy hot chocolate is made with warm milk, hot chocolate mix, a pinch of cayenne and coffee liqueur. Top it with whipped cream for a decadent sweet treat!

The first time I ever heard of spicy hot chocolate was while watching the old movie Chocolat, when Vianne picked a spicy chocolate for someone visiting her chocolaterie.
I was intrigued, and then when I tasted spicy chili chocolate, I was hooked.
Chocolate with chili is amazing, fantastical, tantalizing, and it makes me smile. I especially like this spicy kick in my hot chocolate.
Choosing Ingredients
I used a hot chocolate mix that I found on a road trip to Acadia a few years ago. It's a Vermont brand called Sillycow Farms, and I really like it. If you already have a hot chocolate blend that you love the taste of, it should be a good fit for this drink!
My coffee liqueur came from a standard grocery store and is a fairly easy-to-find brand.

You'll also need some cayenne pepper.

How to Make a Spicy Hot Chocolate with Coffee Liqueur
Start by warming some milk in a saucepan. Don't let it boil and scald! Once it begins to steam, go ahead and take it off the stove.

Next, stir in the hot chocolate mix, cayenne pepper, and liqueur until everything is incorporated.

You could stop there, but's what hot chocolate without a little whipped cream? I like to make my own using an electric mixer. All it takes is whipping cream and a little sugar in a chilled bowl.

Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with a spoonful of whipped cream. Enjoy your spicy cocktail!
