Are you visiting Red River Gorge for the hiking, camping, underground kayaking, or any of the other plentiful things to do in the area?

If it's been a while or you're new to the gorge, you might be pleasantly surprised by the number of restaurants that are now scattered around this rural region.

One of them is Red River Rockhouse, a lunch and dinner place serving up delicious burgers and more.

    The Setup

Parking can be tricky at this restaurant; it's on a small hillside lot.

It's only open Thursday through Sunday, so during peak season you can probably expect a crowd! There's seating both indoors and outdoors.

Although you may be waiting in line for a few minutes to order, the time passes quickly because there are quite a few local artisan items for sale in the entryway. This makes for fun browsing before you get to the ordering counter.

Everything we’ve tried here has been fabulous.

We also love their fries (regular or sweet potato).

They have a selection of local (and non-local) beers on tap. At this point (in 2025), beer is not available on Sundays.

Many ingredients are sourced locally. A brief rundown of their suppliers (along with some of the artisan products they stock) can be found on their website.

Food generally comes out quickly, although if you visit during peak times you may need to be a little patient.

This is a great spot to visit after a day in the gorge. It's on our regular rotation, along with pizza at Miguel's and barbeque at RedPoint or Thatcher's!
