Made in Italy Pizzeria is a charming eatery in Edinburgh's Grassmarket. Stop by when you're in the mood for gourmet pizza!

After a long (but enjoyable) day exploring a couple of small towns in Fife, stopping for lunch in Kirkcaldy and walking part of the Fife Coastal Path, we needed something easy for dinner after returning to Edinburgh.
Strolling in the Grassmarket below the Royal Mile, we saw the Made in Italy Pizzeria and headed straight for it.
Looking for traditional Scottish fare? We sampled plenty of that too, at places like Bertie's Proper Fish and Chips and The Beehive Inn (a pub that's almost next door to this pizzeria).
What to Know Before You Go
Made in Italy is open all day, with a limited breakfast menu (as well as pastries) available until noon. Check out the menu here.
The Grassmarket is generally quite crowded and filled with tourists, but at Made in Italy (and no doubt many of the other restaurants), an early supper is likely to be quiet and relaxed.
When we visited, around 5:30 p.m., it was completely empty of other customers, but seating had filled up by the time we left an hour later.

It has a cozy, inviting interior. There's also some outdoor seating if the weather cooperates!

The Menu at Made in Italy Pizzeria
Although pizza is the star of the show here, you can also choose from a variety of paninis, salads and pastas.

We chose the Vegetariana pizza, which was especially tasty thanks to the caramelized red onions and balsamic glaze.
Incidentally, this is also where I learned that arugula is called "rocket" in the UK. Our pizza was heaped with it!

If you want to go vegan and/or gluten-free, they can accommodate you with ingredient substitutions.
Don't forget to browse the pastry display case before you go. We gave in to the temptation to take away a pear and almond tart for later. (It was delicious!)

If you want something a little more out-of-the-box, try a dessert pizza (they have tiramisu pizza, a pizza made with peaches, cream, and amaretto, and others). Sadly, we couldn't try everything!
After your meal — if you haven't already had dessert! — we recommend a stop at Mary's Milk Bar just across the street for some of their famous ice cream.
