Cafe Wemyss, inside the Kirkcaldy Galleries of Scotland's county of Fife, offers affordable and tasty locally sourced lunch options.

The town of Kirkcaldy was our jumping-off point for a day of exploring family history in Scotland's Fife region.
We spent some time at Kirkcaldy Galleries and had lunch at the restaurant on site, Cafe Wemyss, before we wandered further afield.

This café was an affordable and pleasant stop! If you're traveling in the area, here's what you can expect on a visit to the Galleries.
What Can I See at Kirkcaldy Galleries?
Kirkcaldy Galleries is kind of an all-in-one stop for this corner of Fife: it has a local museum, a library, a few lovely art gallery rooms, gift shop, a family history center, and a restaurant.

All of the museum/gallery areas are free to visit, and I particularly enjoyed my wander through the rooms of paintings by Scottish artists.
The building is right next to the local train station, and not too far from a bus stop.

Food + Drink Options at Cafe Wemyss
The café is open mainly during lunch hours, although they do have menu items for a late breakfast or snack. They offer plenty of locally sourced food and drink. There's also a full range of coffee drinks and even prosecco.

On the day we visited, they had a delicious lentil soup that we ordered with scones on the side.

Gluten-free options are available if you need that!
In the cooler you will find a selection of pastries and cold drinks, including Fentimans soft drinks (one of my favorite British brands, with lots of interesting botanical flavors!).

In the past I've loved Fentimans Rose Lemonade, but this time I decided to try something more unusual: the Dandelion & Burdock. It was a little bit like root beer, but also very much its own thing.
If you haven't tried these soft drinks before, I recommend them!
The café also sells locally made tablet (similar to fudge), and I bought some to bring home for future enjoyment.

This was a charming café in a town that's a little bit away from the major tourist route! It was a great place to regroup and have a meal while making our plans for the rest of the day.
From Kirkcaldy, we took a bus to the even smaller town of Dysart, enjoying amazing sea views that seemed to stretch forever along the Fife Coastal Path.
At the end of the day we made our way back to Edinburgh and dinner at the wonderful Made in Italy Pizzeria.
