For a cozy café close to plenty of adventure destinations, Honeybee Coffee and Donut House in Summersville, West Virginia is a fun choice!

One of our recent getaways took us near the New River Gorge area in West Virginia.

There's plenty to see around there, including the national park and multiple state parks. And even though the area can feel remote (and therefore perfect for lovers of the outdoors!), there are a handful of towns that offer some neat dining experiences. Some of these are in Summersville and Fayetteville.

We stopped in at Honeybee Coffee and Donut House in Summersville the morning after a full day's whitewater rafting trip on the Gauley River.

This brand new (as of fall 2023) coffee shop had just recently had their grand opening.

Are you planning a trip to central West Virginia and wondering what restaurants to include? Here's what this coffee shop is like!

The dining areas were super cute, with decorations that were all bee or honey themed.

We had a hot latte with one pump of honey syrup.  It seemed only right, considering the theme.

They have a variety of drinks, even if you don't want coffee — and don't forget to check out the specialty board.

The cute and tiny donuts were made to order, cooked and topped right in front of us.

We got two Samoa donuts (chocolate coconut), two maple bacon donuts, and two of their signature Honeybee donuts. Those are the ones with the yellow and black sprinkles.

To check out their current donut lineup, visit their Facebook page. They sell other baked goods too — cookies, breads, muffins, and more.

There was also a display of merchandise like tumblers, jars of honey, coffee beans, lip balm, and wax melts.

This shop was such an enjoyable pause in our day before we headed out of town.

What Else Should I Check Out Near Summersville?

If you're visiting New River Gorge, don't miss the epic hiking trails like Endless Wall, Long Point, and Grandview Rim.

As mentioned above, the two rivers that traverse this area make for great whitewater rafting, and there are also plenty of spots to camp for free!

You could also visit Summersville Lake State Park, Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park, or Summit Lake in the Monongahela National Forest.

There's really too much to see in just one visit! Whatever your trip includes, I hope you get a chance to check out the local food scene as well. Honeybee Coffee and Donut House was a super cute spot that’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Summersville area!
