The Charred Oak Whiskey Grill in Somerset, Kentucky, is the perfect spot to enjoy a bourbon-centric menu, and features both classic cocktails and delicious dining.

We visited Somerset, Kentucky, this past May, and really enjoyed our visit!

After a long day hiking at Cumberland Falls and Eagle Falls, exploring this small city of Somerset was just what we needed.

The menu at the Charred Oak Whiskey Grill sounded fantastic, and we ended our day here with dinner.

If you're visiting Somerset, make sure to check out one of our other favorite spots, the Woodstock Lavender Company! And here's a guide to other things to do near Cumberland Falls.

    First Impressions

The Charred Oak Whiskey Grill felt like walking into a high-end sports bar. There were TVs by the bar, but they weren't overly loud.

There were even pool tables in the back of the restaurant if you wanted to hang out with friends.

The modern feel of the building (and the fun lights) made this spot feel classy enough for a special occasion, but not so fancy that I felt out of place in my casual outfit.

Seating Options at The Charred Oak Whiskey Grille

The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating.

The day we arrived, the outdoor seating was all taken, but there was an open wall (roll-up style) inside and our table was ‘almost’ outside. This option turned out to be nice because our table was shaded (outdoor tables weren't).

We happened to be in Somerset on Derby Day, which is kind of a big deal in Kentucky! It also happened to be the same night as the local high school prom, so things were fairly busy.

Happily, the restaurant had the race playing on TVs by the bar, and we sipped on a mint julep as we waited for our meal.

    Selecting Meals

The Charred Oak Whiskey Grill's menu features "the American spirit" — that is, bourbon. Bourbon isn't in everything, but it makes a frequent appearance. Check their website for the current menu options.

To start, we chose an ahi tuna appetizer served with a soy-whiskey glaze and a sweet ginger slaw. I’m fairly picky about my ahi tuna and this one was great. It had a nice flavor and tasted like high-quality fish.

For our entrées, we chose the red snapper (on our server's recommendation) and the bourbon shrimp tacos.

The red snapper is, according to our server, one of their most popular dishes, and it's easy to see why! It was delicious, as was the brussels sprout side dish.

The bourbon shrimp tacos were my favorite that night. The sweet bourbon sauce was absolutely perfect with the shrimp.

For dessert, we picked the lemonberry cake. It was just the right amount of sweet.

This was a memorable, delicious evening out! If you're in the Somerset area, the Charred Whiskey Grill is definitely worth a visit.
