Bakersfield is a lively restaurant in downtown Cincinnati specializing in tacos, tequila and whiskey! Here's a look at what it offers.

It's a simple formula: tacos, tequila, and whiskey. And one that you can find in the half-dozen Bakersfield locations from Michigan to Tennessee.

When you visit, you'll see that the drinks list speaks for itself: with more than 100 tequilas, bourbons, ryes, and Tennessee whiskies, a rotating list of beers on tap, and several house cocktails, there's no shortage of options.

On a Cincinnati getaway (where we did an underground brewery tour, as well as visited Findlay Market), we got an opportunity to try the Mexican street fare offered at Bakersfield. Here's what to know if you're interested in going!

    Finding Bakersfield

This restaurant is located in downtown Cincinnati. It's in Over the Rhine, a district known for its awesome foodie spots, boutique shopping, and concert hall.

It's a fairly walkable neighborhood, although there's also a streetcar called The Connector that is free to ride and that makes multiple stops around OTR. It stops less than two blocks from Bakersfield. (The streetcar also goes as far south as the Reds' baseball stadium by the river.)

The restaurant can get fairly busy, especially on a weekend, so consider visiting their website to make reservations.

Looking for a good cup of coffee nearby? I recommend Redtree Coffee!

    On the Menu

We stopped here on a Saturday night and sat at the bar.

I had a mezcal margarita, made spicy (with jalapeños added), and my husband had a caballero old fashioned. Both drinks were fantastic!

We tried four tacos: the fish, Baja shrimp, pollo verde and short rib. All four were good! My favorite was the fish, and his favorite was the short rib.

All tacos are priced at a flat rate, which makes it more appealing to mix up the types you want to try.

The tacos were small, so it's recommended to order two or three per person. There are also sides available if you’re extra hungry. We were just there for a light meal, so two tacos per person was the perfect amount!

Not able to get out for restaurant tacos at the moment? Make your own variations at home: cilantro lime fish tacos, potato tacos, halibut tacos, blackened rockfish tacos, and tilapia tacos.

The staff was really friendly, and I’d definitely come back!
