When we visit distilleries and other fun beverage destinations, we often come away with interesting products — coffee-flavored vodka, or chocolate cream liqueur, for instance.

Ingredients that call out to be used in a fancy homemade cocktail.

That's where the inspiration came from for this mocha martini, a creamy, chocolatey dessert drink. Here's what you need to know to make it!

Craving a warm spiked drink? Try Kentucky bourbon coffee or campfire hot chocolate with peanut butter whiskey!

Where Can I Find Coffee Vodka for a Mocha Martini?

We purchased some absolutely delicious coffee-flavored vodka at the Jeptha Creed Distillery (near Louisville, Kentucky).

    Bottle of coffee flavored vodka.

Other distilleries also make variations of coffee vodka that should work well in this recipe.

Note that the coffee vodka we used was not sweet, so if the version you’re using is sweetened, your cocktail will taste more sugary than this one.

Where Can I Find Chocolate Cream Liqueur?

We used chocolate cream liqueur that we picked up at the Tennessee Cider Company in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Bottle of chocolate beignet flavored wine.

Chocolate cream liqueur is slightly more difficult to locate than coffee vodka, so if you can’t find it, you could swap in part chocolate liqueur and part another cream liqueur (such as vanilla cream liqueur or Bailey's).

    Can I Use Non-Dairy Milk?

We only tested this with cow’s milk, but non-dairy milks should work. Keep in mind that the flavor of the non-dairy milk will affect the finished flavor of the drink.

Non-dairy milks will also froth differently than cow’s milk.

    Can I Use Heavy Cream?

You can, but it likely won’t froth as easily as milk.

How to Make a Mocha Martini

Add the coffee vodka, chocolate cream liqueur, and milk to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake the mixture well, so that the milk froths.

Next, strain the cocktail into a glass.

For an extra chocolatey garnish, use a mesh strainer to dust the martini with a little hot chocolate mix or cocoa powder!
