Pizzeria la Remisa is a wonderful and cozy dining spot that gets you away from the crowd in northern Italy's Courmayeur.

We stumbled into Courmayeur, Italy, after a 16-mile hiking day on the Tour du Mont Blanc.
The trail passes directly through it, making it a natural stopping point, and a great time to enjoy a hotel in the middle of a mostly camping trip.

After an exceptionally long day, we were tired, dirty, and most of all, HUNGRY.

After checking into the wonderful Hotel Bouton d’Or, we started looking for food. By this time, it was close to 7 p.m., and if we couldn’t find something quick and easy, I was inclined to just go to sleep without dinner.
I’d heard it can be quite difficult to find a place to eat in Courmayeur without a reservation during the busy summer season. (We did not have a reservation.)
Happily, my husband found this gem of a restaurant just around the corner from our hotel, in the same building as the tourist information center. (It was also where we bought bus tickets to take us to the nearby QC Spa of Wonders, which was a great way to unwind.)
We walked in, unsure what to expect, and a little embarrassed that we’d neglected to pack “town clothes” and were therefore pretty gross despite showers.
The sweet woman who greeted us ushered us in and before we knew it, we were digging into some of the best food we had on the trip and maybe even of all time.

What We Loved at Pizzeria la Remisa

That night we had insalata la Remisa (salad with apples, fontina and walnuts), penne all’arrabiatta (spicy penne with tomato sauce) and the lasagne al forno (four cheese baked lasagna).

And of course, we couldn’t leave without dessert. I’m still not totally sure what kind of cake this was, but it was perfection.

The next day, after a little self-care and laundry time (in the hotel bathroom sink), and a quick grocery store stop, we debated where to eat on our second night in Courmayeur.
That weekend, Courmayeur was SO BUSY. The UTMB 100k race was getting ready to start and there were people everywhere. It was a little overwhelming. When my husband suggested returning to La Remisa, I quickly agreed. We were not disappointed.
This time, we started with two beers. (They also had a large selection of wine if you prefer.)

I tried the gnocchi al pomodoro (gnocchi with tomato sauce) and he got a diavola pizza (with spicy salami).

We left full and satisfied, convinced that this was among the best pasta and pizza we’d ever eaten.
If you’ll be in Courmayeur and want to avoid the crowds on the Main Street, without going far from town, check out La Remisa!
