Le Comptoir des Alpes is a great spot for a meal in Chamonix, France, with a gorgeous view of the French Alps!

Le Comptoir is billed as an Italian restaurant in central Chamonix, France. Despite calling itself Italian, the meals available when we visited seemed to skew French. Perhaps that makes sense because this corner of France is quite close to Italy!

This restaurant has quite the view! We sat outside and admired the mountains in the distance.

We visited Le Comptoir for lunch with friends. One of them has food allergies, and he was hoping this spot would work for him.

The menu clearly lists some known allergens in their dishes (see the bottom of the menu pictured below), but the server also worked with him and the kitchen to prepare a meal he could eat. As far as allergies go, we had a good experience here.

(I will note that our friend is from France and could easily speak fluent French with the waiter, so his experience may differ from yours.)

What We Tried at Le Comptoir des Alpes

For drinks, we ordered two spritzes: a classic Aperol spritz and a raspberry version (il rosso).

We opted for one of their lunch specials, which included a starter, main course, and dessert. You can pick each of the above from their fairly short menu. The choices change seasonally, showcasing regional products as much as possible.

My husband and I shared a meal since we’d already been snacking at the Aiguille du Midi cafeteria that morning.

We had a tomato salad, their version of black cod fish meunière, and cherry clafoutis.

The fish meunière was served with eggplant caviar and caramelized spring onions.

Everything was delightful, and this is a great spot for a more upscale meal in Chamonix.

In Chamonix, we also enjoyed a casual meal at Cool Cats Hot Dogs, wonderful breakfasts and lunches at Casa Nonna, and craft beers at Big Mountain Brewing Co.
