Casa Nonna serves up exceptionally good breakfasts and lunches from its location inside a popular Chamonix hotel.

Outdoor dining area with shade umbrellas over tables and chairs and view of Mont Blanc in the distance.

Casa Nonna is the Italian cafe inside the Hotel le Refuge des Aiglons in Chamonix, which is perfectly located for taking a cable car up Aiguille du Midi.

Exterior of Les Aiglons Hotel Chamonix, a multi-story beige and brown building with arched gateways at the base.

On this side of town, you're truly on the edge of the incredible Mont Blanc massif, and whether you plan to explore it on foot or by cable car, you're in for a treat.

We stayed at the hotel and loved it! After being incredibly impressed by the breakfasts at Casa Nonna, we decided to try lunch. It was exceptional.

The restaurant is actually open for all three meals, with specific hours dedicated to each.

Casa Nonna has both indoor and outdoor dining. If the weather is nice, the outdoor space is perfect because it looks out on Mont Blanc (as pictured at the top of the post).

What We Tried at Casa Nonna

When we visited for lunch, we tried two of their spritzes: a limoncello spritz and a Campari spritz.

    Cocktail menu at Cafe Nonna.

Both were perfect. The limoncello one was quite a bit sweeter than the bitter Campari one (as I expected). I enjoyed the limoncello spritz so much I had to recreate it at home.

    Spritz Cocktails

Check out the cocktail and food menus on their website. They have a number of signature drinks, including a couple of seasonal ones inspired by the Mont Blanc setting.

We started with the bomba mozza, or mini fried pizza bites. (They weren’t as mini as I expected, but they were fluffy and delightful.)

For our entrees, we had the salade canardissimo (duck salad), which had leafy greens, blueberries, duck, walnuts and a creamy Gorgonzola dressing. It was light, refreshing and had really nice balanced flavors.

We also had the fettucine aux morilles (fettuccine with morel mushrooms).  I can say that, without a doubt, this was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. It was fantastic.

To finish the meal, we tried the affogatos (gelato topped with espresso). We’ve attempted to make these at home and have decided we weren’t using enough ice cream per cup.

They came with a pistachio topping and were delicious! You can order the affogato with or without liqueur.

If you’re planning a visit to Chamonix and want a special meal, I highly recommend Cafe Nonna.

(For that matter, I also highly recommend staying at Hotel le Refuge des Aiglons during your visit: we had a wonderful experience here.)

The restaurant also has a picnic menu with a different focaccia sandwich offered each day. You can order at reception the day before and collect it at the restaurant in the morning.

Looking for more recommendations in Chamonix? I also recommend Cool Cats Hot Dogs, Big Mountain Brewing Basecamp Cafe, and Le Comptoir des Alpes.
