Brewery Bourgogne des Flandres (Bruges, Belgium)

The Brewery Bourgogne des Flandres in Bruges has an excellent beer flight option and a picturesque canal-side location.

While enjoying a day out in the historic city of Bruges, we explored chocolate and we explored beer.

Always a good use of a day, especially in Belgium!

At the Brewery Bourgogne des Flandres, we took refuge from an overcast day to enjoy a flight of beer and a snack. It was in a charming corner of central Bruges.

The brewery is located right on the canal, so you can sit and watch the boats, swans and ducks go by. Or if it’s raining hard and sideways, there are also indoor tables.

We tried both indoor and outdoor seating during our visit to Bruges, and the outdoor canal seats are definitely my favorite if the weather is cooperative.

Can I Tour?

Yes! We didn't, but you can buy tickets that allow you to check out the brewery and distillery firsthand (self-guided with audio), meet the brewer, and have a glass of beer at the end.

What Kind of Food Is Available at the Brewery Bourgogne des Flandres?

There were limited food options, but they did have some snacks. (All signs are translated into multiple languages, including English.)

We got a cheese plate. They also had cured meats, pretzels, meatballs, and tapas available.

Beer Flights

I recommend trying the beer flight, which includes six beers currently on tap. (See the black boards above the bar to identify the day's choices.)

They have a fairly limited selection, but I thought each beer we tried was exceptional, and I was happy that they did the beer curating for me. (Some breweries in Belgium have hundreds of beer on tap, which could be a fun experience to have so many options, or it could be overwhelming.)

You can also, of course, go on to have a glass of your favorite from the flight.

The namesake beer of the brewery, Bourgogne des Flandres, is a rich red-brown beer that blends Bruinen Os (a high-fermentation brown ale made on site) with aged lambic (from Timmermans Brewery just outside of Brussels).
