Materials

Essentials:

  • sliced meat, such as summer sausage or salami I like summer sausage because it’s typically shelf-stable until opened
  • 2 cheese wedges, cut into thin slices or small cubes See note "What kind of cheese?"
  • olives or gherkins (small pickles)
  • nuts or trail mix
  • crackers or flat bread cut into small wedges
  • honey or jam

More Charcuterie Ideas:

  • hummus or another dip
  • stuffed sweet peppers
  • grapes, mandarin oranges or other small fruit
  • sweets, such as small cookies or chocolates

Instructions

  • Place nuts, olives, honey, or any other ingredient with liquid in small containers, such as small bowls, camp mugs or small glass jars. Add utensils as needed.
    Packages of crackers, cheese, summer sausage, hummus, and olives, and jars of peppers and hot honey.
  • Arrange ingredients on a platter or plate.

Notes

What kind of cheese?
Hard cheeses (like Parmesan) last longer in a cooler than soft cheeses.
We like to choose a couple cheeses that sound interesting, or choose one mild cheese and one stronger cheese.
