Between the two of us, the husband and I have managed to catch what seems like every cold virus coming and going. We’re on the mend now (again), but I know some of you are still trying to get better. When you aren’t buying tissues, making soup, and watching movies– there’s something else you should do. You should make this Mint Tea Hot Toddy.
This Mint Tea Hot Toddy is a ‘get well’ standard in my home, and that means it’s made with ingredients I have on hand. First, you need mint tea. (Did that surprise anyone? No? Alright then.) Use whatever mint tea you prefer– loose leaf or bagged. Either works. You’ll also need a lemon and some honey (or agave syrup, if you’re vegan), because lemon and honey feel AMAZING on a sore throat.
There’s one more thing you should add to this hot toddy– the not-so-secret ingredient. It’s bourbon (or use whiskey, if you prefer). The bourbon’s going to help you sleep off your cold– Oh– and it tastes fantabulous too! Making a Mint Tea Hot Toddy
To make a Mint Tea Hot Toddy, simply brew your mint tea, and add a little bourbon, the honey, and a squeeze of lemon. That’s it. You don’t want anything too complicated right now anyway, right? Adjust the amounts to taste, sip your hot toddy slowly, and feel better.

Mint Tea Hot Toddy
- 1 mint tea bag (or 1 1/2 tsp loose leaf mint tea)
- 1 oz bourbon (or sub whiskey)
- 2 tsp honey (or sub agave syrup), to taste
- 1 lemon, sliced
Brew tea in hot water for 2-3 minutes.
Add bourbon to tea. Add honey (or agave) to taste.
Squeeze a lemon slice into drink, and then serve with the lemon slice still inside. Serve hot.
