Has the winter weather taken its toll on you this year?  Have you made it through cold and flu season unscathed?  We haven’t.  In fact, this winter has been a little bit rough.  Between the two of us, the husband and I have managed to catch what seems like every cold virus coming and going.  We’re on the mend now (again), but I know some of you are still trying to get better.  When you aren’t buying tissues, making soup, and watching movies– there’s something else you should do.  You should make this Mint Tea Hot Toddy.

Gathering Ingredients

This Mint Tea Hot Toddy is a ‘get well’ standard in my home, and that means it’s made with ingredients I have on hand.  First, you need mint tea.  (Did that surprise anyone?  No?  Alright then.)  Use whatever mint tea you prefer– loose leaf or bagged.  Either works.  You’ll also need a lemon and some honey (or agave syrup, if you’re vegan), because lemon and honey feel AMAZING on a sore throat.

There’s one more thing you should add to this hot toddy– the not-so-secret ingredient.  It’s bourbon (or use whiskey, if you prefer).  The bourbon’s going to help you sleep off your cold– Oh– and it tastes fantabulous too!  If you’re reading this thinking, “I’m out of bourbon, and I don’t feel like driving to the store!”– Don’t despair!  My favorite cocktail movers and shakers over at Drizly* have got you covered.  They provided the bourbon for my hot toddy, and they’ll do the same for yours.  Drizly is a liquor store on the go– they’ll bring the bourbon to you, and you don’t even have to change out of your pajamas.  Oh– and it’ll get there within an hour.  It’s like magic.

Hot toddys are awesome when I’m feeling a little under the weather. I’ve never had one with mint tea before but totally makes sense. The mint is probably really soothing. Cold or no cold…bet this tastes delicious and perfect on a winter day 🙂

As a Brit, I’d never heard of a hot toddy before but it sounds absolutely gorgeous! I’ll definitely be trying it out to get me through this chilly winter!

Oh, with the way I’m feeling right now, I could sure use a cup or two of that tea. I love a good hot tea, especially during the windy, blowing snow weather we’ve been having. Double up on the bourbon for me though. 🙂

I feeling great but that tea sure looks good – I could go for a nice cup with now. It certainly is a handy recipe to have when you need a tonic to pick you up. Love tea but it’s probably the alcohol that gives your metabolism a good kick in the rear! 🙂

Hot toddies are the best for coughs and sore throat! This version with mint tea sounds yummy. I don’t think I have ever had one with mint tea in it before.

I agree that honey and lemon are just perfect for a sore throat. This sounds like the perfect drink to make you feel better. My husband being the bourbon drinker would love this. I’m going have to tell him about Drizly home delivery!

I could really go for this right now. I woke up with a sore throat and I was hoping it would just go away. Alas, it has not and it has me wanting to lay in bed all day and forget my adult duties. Lucky for me, I’ve got all the ingredients to make this hot toddy to fix me right up!

This is exactly what the doctor ordered. I have 2 kids sick and I feel it coming on. My mother in law always says to add a spoonful of honey to hot lemon water when I’m getting sick but I really like the addition of the mint tea!

Oh, my… Mint tea is my favorite one! I drink it usually in my office. It defogs my brain when he boils up hahaha I never ever thought of adding bourbon in my mint tea 😀 Well that must taste amazing. I don’t have a cold or flu, luckily, but I WILL try this tomorrow for sure.
